Recently, we have been working with dedication to enhance our metal-paper sandwich material, aiming to improve its reliability and sealing performance on maintained engines.
To tangibly measure the value of our solutions, we conducted a rigorous assessment, analysing the mechanical behavior of three products:
- The benchmark: OE Caterpillar as reference standard. Tested on nr.2 genuine parts.
- The WGE solution: our new DRM (Double Reinforced Material).
- The alternative: a competitor in Aftermarket field.
The test focused on compressibility (ability to conform to surface irregularities), elastic recovery (ability to maintain sealing load over time), and curve stability (consistency and uniformity during the load cycle).
Technological evolution: the 5-layer configuration
To further improve mechanical stability and long-term sealing performance, the DRM material evolves from a traditional 3-layer structure to a reinforced 5-layer sandwich design.
This advanced architecture consists of:
- Graphite-coated cylinder head gasket special paper on outer sides.
- Two perforated steel layers for structural reinforcement.
- Central graphite-coated cylinder head gasket special paper as binder.
This structural innovation guarantees improved load distribution across the gasket surface and higher structural stability under high bolt loads.
The results
Laboratory data confirm the engineering superiority of our solution. The new World Gasket Ellegi double reinforced material registers a controlled compressibility of 10.68% and an elevated elastic recovery of 81.0% , ensuring a very low permanent set.
Comparing our product with the market alternative, the new World Gasket Ellegi DRM offers:
- +10% higher elastic recovery.
- Lower thickness loss after compression and a stable mechanical behavior.
- A smooth and stable plateau across the full load cycle, indicating a homogeneous and robust sandwich structure.
The Ellegi solution maintains its strength over time, whilst the tested Aftermarket competitor showed a poor elastic recovery of 64.32% and a noticeable loss of thickness after release , highlighting the technical risk of a potential progressive reduction of sealing load during operation.
World Gasket DRM is engineered for longevity, thermal stability and consistent sealing under heavy-duty conditions. It provides a reliable, OEM-oriented alternative with clear performance advantages over common aftermarket solutions.
